Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

If you’ve tried therapy before and still feel stuck, you’re not alone.

For some individuals, especially those navigating trauma, depression, or long-standing emotional patterns, traditional approaches may not feel like enough.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers a different path—one that can help access deeper emotional insight, increase psychological flexibility, and support meaningful change.

At Lotus Integrative Mental Health Counseling, we offer KAP-informed therapy in Albany and Schenectady Counties, in collaboration with licensed medical providers, as well as preparation and integration sessions for clients participating in ketamine treatment.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

KAP combines the therapeutic benefits of ketamine with professional psychotherapy, creating opportunities for insight and transformation.

Ketamine can help:

  • Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety

  • Loosen rigid thought patterns

  • Increase openness to new perspectives

  • Support trauma processing

When combined with therapy, it can create opportunities for deeper insight and emotional healing.

Who KAP May Help

KAP may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression

  • Trauma or PTSD

  • Anxiety that hasn’t responded to traditional therapy

  • Persistent negative thought patterns

  • Feeling “stuck” despite previous therapy

This approach is not for everyone, and we’ll help you determine whether it’s an appropriate fit.

How KAP Works

1. Preparation Sessions

We begin by building a strong therapeutic foundation.

These sessions focus on:

  • Clarifying intentions

  • Building safety and trust

  • Preparing emotionally for the experience

2. Ketamine Sessions (self-dosing)

Ketamine will be self-administered during the session, but prescribed by a licensed medical provider in a separate medical setting.

We will collaborate with Journey Clinical.

3. Integration Sessions (Core of the Work)

Integration is where lasting change happens.

After your ketamine experience, we’ll work together to:

  • Process insights and emotions

  • Make meaning of the experience

  • Apply what emerged in your daily life

  • Support long-term healing and change

Important Considerations

KAP is a specialized service that requires proper medical screening and oversight.

We do not prescribe or administer ketamine. Instead, we provide:

  • Preparation sessions

  • Integration therapy

  • Coordination with outside medical providers

If you’re curious about KAP, we can help guide you through the next steps and referrals as needed.

Your KAP Questions, Answered...

  • Ketamine has been used in medical settings for decades and is considered safe when administered by a licensed medical provider in an appropriate setting.

In KAP, safety is a top priority. You will be medically screened and monitored by a qualified provider during any ketamine sessions. Our role is to support you therapeutically before and after the experience.

  • Ketamine therapy typically refers to the medical administration of ketamine to help reduce symptoms.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) goes deeper by combining that experience with therapy—helping you process insights, integrate changes, and create meaningful, lasting results.

  • No. At Lotus Integrative Mental Health Counseling, we do not prescribe or administer ketamine. Ketamine is self-administered during the dosing session.

    We provide:

    • Preparation sessions

    • Integration therapy

    • Coordination with trusted medical providers

  • By combining Journey Clinical’s dosing protocol with trauma-informed psychotherapy, clients receive a holistic, integrative approach:

    • Medication opens the door for insight

    • Therapist guidance ensures safety and meaning

    • Integration maximizes lasting change

This structured approach is what makes Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy a premium, high-impact option for those ready for deeper transformation.

  • Ketamine is provided by Journey Clinical under a medical protocol. During your dosing session:

    • You self-administer the ketamine in a safe, controlled setting

    • A trained therapist supervises the session, providing support and guidance

    • After dosing, integration sessions help you process insights, emotions, and changes

This approach combines the therapeutic benefits of ketamine with expert psychological support, maximizing safety, insight, and lasting results.

  • Experiences can vary, but many people describe:

    • A sense of expanded awareness

    • Reduced mental “noise” or overthinking

    • Access to emotions or memories in a different way

    • A feeling of distance from distressing thoughts

You are never alone in the process—we prepare thoroughly beforehand and support you afterward through integration.

  • This varies based on your goals and needs.

    Typically, KAP includes:

    • Several preparation sessions

    • A series of ketamine dosing sessions

    • Ongoing integration therapy

We’ll work together to create a plan that feels appropriate and supportive for you.

  • KAP may be a good fit if you:

    • Feel stuck despite previous therapy

    • Are navigating trauma, depression, or anxiety

    • Are open to a deeper, more experiential approach to healing

During your consultation, we’ll talk through whether this approach aligns with your needs.

  • KAP may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly individuals with certain medical or psychiatric conditions.

A licensed medical provider through Journey Clinical will complete a screening process to determine eligibility and safety.

  • At this time, KAP services are offered for adults only.

However, we do provide therapy for children and adolescents using other evidence-based approaches.

  • Getting started is simple.

👉 Schedule a free consultation and we’ll talk through:

    • Your goals

In our model, ketamine is prescribed and provided by Journey Clinical, and clients self-administer during a supervised dosing session with a therapist from Lotus Integrative Mental Health Counseling.

Our therapeutic support, which includes preparation, supervision during dosing, and integration sessions, is offered primarily at our private-pay rates; however, you can use your insurance for the preparation and integration sessions:

    • Preparation session (60 min): $150

    • Integration session (60 min): $150

    • Extended KAP dosing + therapy session (2–3 hrs): $400-600

During your consultation, we’ll review all costs and create a personalized plan so you have a clear understanding of what to expect before getting started.
