Tara Benincasa, owner of Lotus Integrative Mental Health Counseling, is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege. She provides individual counseling for children (ages 10 and older), adolescents, and adults, specializing in trauma treatment across the lifespan. Tara works with individuals who have experienced sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, as well as children and adolescents who have engaged in sexually acting-out behaviors. She also supports clients navigating depression, anxiety, teen-related concerns, and women’s issues.

Tara is trained and certified in multiple evidence-based and body-centered trauma therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)* and Brainspotting**. She is also a certified Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F)***, integrating somatic and mindfulness-based approaches into her work. Tara offers EMDR intensives for clients seeking a more focused, accelerated path to healing. In addition, Tara offers Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) as part of a comprehensive, trauma-informed treatment approach for individuals seeking deeper healing.

Tara is a Clinical Partner with the Headstrong Project (https://theheadstrongproject.org/), a nonprofit organization providing cost-free, confidential mental health services to post-9/11 veterans and active service members experiencing PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, and military sexual trauma.

She has extensive experience conducting risk assessments with youth who sexually act out and provides sex abuse evaluations for local county agencies. Her work follows the New York State Children’s Justice Task Force Forensic Interviewing Best Practice Guidelines and APSAC Practice Guidelines for Psychosocial Evaluations of Suspected Sexual Abuse in Children. Tara is also retained as an expert witness in criminal cases involving childhood sexual abuse.

In addition to her clinical work, Tara supervises graduate-level interns, limited permit holders, and licensed professionals, supporting the development of ethical and competent clinicians.

Originally from Liverpool, New York, Tara relocated to the Capital Region to attend The College of Saint Rose, where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She lives with her husband, daughter, and four cats.
